![Bellboy, The]() Bellboy, The (1960)
IMDB rating: 6.20
Plot: Stanley is a bellboy at the Fountainbleau Hotel in Miami Beach. It is there that he performs his duties quietly and without a word to anyone. All that he displays are facial expressions and a comedic slapstick style. And anything that can go wrong - does go wrong when Stanley is involved. Then one day, Jerry Lewis, big star, arrives at the hotel and some of the staff notice the striking resemblance. Stanley continues to do what he was hired to do while star Lewis has more trouble with his entourage than the hotel accommodations.

I bet you can't solve this riddle?
Ok. So 3 people go to a hotel. They pay the man behind the counter $30, $10 each. Then they go up to their room.
The man behind the counter realizes that he had charged them too much. The room was $25, not $30. so he called for the bellboy to give them their change, which was $5.
The bellboy notices he can’t split $5 into 3, so he puts $2 in his pocket and hands each of the 3 people $1. That means each of them payed $9.
They all together payed $27. The bellboy has $2. That’s $29.
What happened to the other dollar?
Think it through. i doubt you will find the answer.
The missing dollar was not dropped, stolen, or lost in any way.
Smokin303 is right, guys. it’s called a mathematical quirk.
The math isnt wrong…
A mathematical quirk is when its a math problem where, depending on how you approach the problem, you can only get it right one way.
its like… any math problem, really. If you dont do a certain order of steps, you’ll get it wrong.
$30
Hotel has $25
Bellboy had $5 to give back
Gave $3 to back to the friends
Kept $2 to Bellboy
25 + 3 + 2 = $30
There is no extra dollar. Not so much of a math riddle, more of a logic riddle, how you look at it kind of riddle.
FYI- He did NOT do his math wrong. That is acutally how the riddle goes. Its logic.

Umm, you did your math wrong. 25+3=28, not 27.
okay I lied. if they each payed $9 which makes sense then that’s 27 and and from then on..I have no idea.

i love this riddle i told it to my family i think the answer has to do with the math originally you were adding and subtracting and in the end dividing and multiplying which ended up changing the numbers

I’ve seen this riddle posted here repeatedly. I’m almost tired of it.
The 3 people payed $27, 2 of which went to the bellboy. So you should have subtracted the $2 from the 27 to calculate the total cost
Anyone who’s ever done any bookkeeping can get this in 5 seconds.
